Instagram got a new office. So did we.
As creatives in the tech sector, there is a desire to chase excess. Pretty decor. Unlimited snacks. After all, how else can we possibly decide which company is better than another?
With rising costs of real estate in hot tech markets, many companies are looking for better alternatives. Many startups and agencies set up shop in co-working spaces while freelancers may opt for coffee shops or the spare bedroom. The Le Design Lab has been dreaming of an entirely new way to disrupt the traditional office.
We caught up with Chief Design Officer Lan Le, who was responsible for the creative direction of the innovative work environment. The goal was to create a space that was both affordable and inspiring. "To be honest, we really have no money for office space," said Le. Here are some of his favorite spots.
The design team often runs out of paper, and Amazon Prime doesn't ship here yet. They quickly discovered that bamboo (or sugar cane?) makes excellent sketching surfaces. "As our devices get smaller and smaller, we are forced to design on tiny interfaces. Our team takes great pride in our ability to adapt to the changing landscape. Why sketch when you can carve?" says Le. A throwback to the Aurignacian Period, it's the perfect place for office romantics and designers alike to express their thoughts.
Apple Board Room
No design studio would be complete without paying homage to Steve Jobs. All of the clients go on walks with our design team during onboarding, retracing the footsteps to greatness. "Some of the most insightful innovations will be invented by this cobblestone," Le pointed out, "or perhaps near that twig."
